In January 2017 we paid for a structural survey of the Hall of Clestrain by Steve Wood of David Narro Associates of Edinburgh. The purpose of this visit is to ascertain the current state of the Hall and to plan a way forward.
On the day of his visit the Orcadian weather gods were not in our favour but that did not deter us or Steve from doing a through survey. We were helped again by Paddy Cassey’s team who provided a ‘cherry picker’ so that Steve could take a good look at the higher levels outside.
After the visit we chatted to Steve, and whilst we await the full printed report, his initial views were that the Hall was in surprisingly good shape despite its history.
With this report we will be in a better position to plan the route ahead, we will keep you posted.
